well you can crunch out the numerical methods by hand if you really need to, but you'd better have a good table set up and not mind going through a few refining iterations.

I live by my TI-89... and hate Calc 3 right now. We're never going to use or do this **** by hand so let us use a calculator and show we know the process!

the thing is, i'm an engineer and the school let's the math department teach engineers math, which sux for many reasons. if it was an engineering proffesor, they would teach us what we would need to know instead of constant babbling about proofs. second, we could use a calculator. third, we could have a cheat sheet.

^Same deal at UCSB man. There's no reason why those tests shouldn't be open book or open notes. My vibrations class was the same deal, except it was taught by an engineering professor. Some of those damped vibration equations get nasty and if you can't remember the exact form of the equation, you're fucked. I don't think she gave partial credit either. God, that class was awful.
