Default iTouch

Okay, I know that we had an iPhone thread, but I just got my iTouch in the mail on Friday and I'm in love. What a cool toy. I just need to find a nice case that will keep it from getting scratched and maybe protect it if I drop it.

The screen resolution is outstanding and I love the wi-fi browser. The only disappointing thing with the iPods is the headphones. I finally brokedown and bought a set of Shure's and life is good.

I'm interested in the best sites for music and video downloading/sharing for the iTouch? Let me know if you have a good suggestion.

Cheers!

Which Shure headphones did you get? I've got a set of E2c's for use with my 5 gen iPod (I'm not baller enough for the E3c's[&o]). I have been eyeing the new 160gb iPods...

As for music downloads, iTunes is going to be the easiest/safest (as far as compatibility). Amazon just recently opened a beta version of their own MP3 store - 256k tracks w/ no DRM, so they'll play nice with your iPod and sound better than most of what's available on iTunes. Otherwise, I can't really point you to any (legal) places to get music. My favorite method is still buying the CDs and ripping them myself.

Is this your first foray into the DAP market? First iPod? If you have any questions, I pretty well know the ins and outs of iTunes and the iPods (I'm a computer geek), plus I'm a bit of an audiophile. Not meaning to brag on myself, just offering up any help/advice I can give you.

Hope you're enjoying it!

P.S. Are you still rocking the stock head unit in your A3? Are you planning on doing any sort of iPod integration?

Thanks.

I bought the E210's, because I don't want to fork over any more dough than I already did. My brother has the E530's and a cool mini amp designed by some guy in Japan. He's definitely over the top IMO, but the sound from his lossless files is stunning.

I have an iPod Mini, which is now a joke...mini....lol. I've never worked with the video files on the iPod before so that part is new. I plan on getting a video/DVD converter for the files I currently have at home. I was just interested if there were any sites or info I might have been missing?

Cheers!

I check www.ilounge.com frequently. They are pretty detail-oriented and their 'Ask iLounge' section is great. The forums are somewhat useful -- alot of the stuff on there is bs but there are a few people who really know what they're talking about.

If you find a decent DVD-iPod converter, let me know. I've tried a few, but it seems that all of them tend to produce files with the audio and video out of sync. It's not noticeable if you are just converting something short like a music video, but if you rip a whole movie it becomes unbearable. Maybe something better has come out though, I pretty much gave up on video conversion and haven't messed with it in a year or more.

Also, have you had a chance to try out the wireless iTunes store? That is the one feature I really want from the iPod Touch!

Yeah, the wireless iTunes store is slick. I'm actually very surprised at how fast the pages refresh and download. It is about 75% the speed of my computer over the wireless network which isn't bad for device about the size of a wireless laptop card.

Cheers!

The only thing making me not get one is they don't hold much! I have way over 16 gigs of music and then I don't have room for any movies or anything. I am waiting till it gets more file storage.

I have the iPod DVD converter and it is working well. It let's you choose the format and quality level of the output. I'm using the iTouch to cruise the forum since my computer is busy converting DVDs.

I use videora ipod converter to convert video files for my iphone...works great, is very customizable, and best of all, it's free! I have a leather case-mate case and so far it's great....however the touch is much slimmer than the iphone, so you may have some difficulty finding a nice case (for now). If you want something to protect only from scratches, check out the invisibleSHIELD, it's a stick-on protector that makes its completely invincible to scratches (but not drops).
