Know nothing about audio, how much to upgrade?
I wanna add a little thump to my trunk but teh only problem is I know basically nothing about audio systems. In order to upgrade the bass what do I need and how much would I need total to do this? (Only need something decent, I certanly don't wanna be paying top dollar)
One more thing, every time I see someone with an upgraded system they always seem to have a new receiver in their dash. Is it possible to keep the origional?

Well, if you just want something that you can take in and out of trunk when you need the space, and add's a nice bit of "bump", just go with one Alpine 10" Type-R, for about $300 in a carpeted box... and an AMP of your choosing... (Mono - 500W or higher, $300-500) After that, you just need a wiring kit, which are anywhere between $40-$100, and some time.
And oh yea, a line level converter, because our car's don't have AUX Outputs on the stock deck...

Also, if you are down in the states, I would highly reccomend www.crutchfield.com, they ship everything for free if your order is over $200 I believe, save you some money on the heavy stuff...
Here's a pic of my set-up... I still use my trunk space alot, and sometimes I need to get the subwoofer out of there. It just unplugs, and the AMP is mounted to the back of the rear seat, WAY out of the way. I've never had to take my AMP out for anything. Good mounting spot IMO. The seat flips down, so I can access the controls and connections if I need too... '

Just take what ever you decide on buying in to Circuit City, and they can Install it all for you for probably less than $100. I had a car done by them a while back, and they did a good job.
It's not that hard to do yourself, but if you've got a friend in town who's done it before, might save you some money there too...

Yea i wokr at Circuit City. Whatever you decide to buy is fine but i know the install fee for an amp sub is $75.00. grnated you have eveyrhting you need. A good setup at your local cirucit city rihgft now would prolyl be one 10 inch Kicker L5 with the matching kicker amp... the 400.1 i believe. amp kit about $70 bass wire $13 rca cables $40-100 depanding on what quality you want, and $20 for the line inverter if u want to keep your factory radio. so for a veyr reliable and great thump for your trunk.... Ide say in store at circuiot city your looking from about $500-1000. anyhitng over a grand will get you into some heavy equipment and some seriosu bass. But its all up to you. if you got any other questions about this or circuit city. let me know fly me an e-mail.
