Limbaugh is a tool...
Okay...
First off, Airguard, no sweat on the highjack - no harm, no foul
Second, I think you're missing the boat on the amount thing. I'm old enough to remember when the poverty line was below $2k - now it's $10k per person... well it's for a single person families it's less...
My point is that I truly don't believe that Obama's $250k a year line is going to drop. We have more millionaires than ever before - some made their bank of the current mortgage crisis, in fact - and to be honest I make 6 figures myself and almost half way there.
Like I mentioned before, when the Clinton's took hold and raised taxes, it hurt for awhile but I adjusted and moved on. Do I like deadbeats living off the system? Not no, but hell no. But here's the rub, not matter what good intention is out there there will be those that abuse the system.
Comparing Obama to Hilter and Mussolini, Bogie, was unfair and extreme, mate. And to be honest, to try and equate him to JFK or MLK is a bit premature as well, Trey...
But allow me a moment to share some insight - and try as I might to keep this short I may fail, so bear with me, Ghetto
I hold Gen Powell's assessment very high - for many reasons and theses are why....
In the military, you have to survive on your ability to quickly and hopefully accurrately assess someone - for you will be placing your life in their hands at any given moment. Men, like Powell and McCain (or any high ranking officer or NCO), learn to recognize those that can get the job done.
Don't know if you all know this but our "economy" is a dream. Something that can disappear at any given moment, but doesn't simply because we believe in it. And it works, don't get me wrong, it does - but as I mentioned before, like all good things there are those that take advantage of the system. Current crisis is a prime example of that. Programs were set up to help the economy grow and alot of greedy motherfu<kers took advantage to the point of near and fatal collapse of this dream.
So when the system collapses and no one believes in this "economy" dream - they take the money out of the banks and everything devalues and then you have another great depression.
What Powell sees in Obama (as well as do I) is someone who can "inspire" those currently feeling that their world is going to collapse and perhaps stave off a possible Great Depression Part II. Thus helping stave off that run on the banks.
What bothers me the most here is how for a people that hold dear the freedoms set forth by the founding fathers, we seem to feel the need to stifle them when we reach disagreements. When Obama mentions that we are the United States of America - I don't truly believe that we are due to this insessent need to push our agenda and blind refusal to admit that perhaps the other side might have the answer this time.
I'm with you Bogie - screw the freeloaders. But there are some - wait scratch that - there are quite a few that legitimately need help.
The negativity, name calling, fingerpointing at shadows has really got to end, and only then can we truly be the "United" States of America again. Personally, I feel Obama can do that. Lately I have seen that in McCain again as well, but his decision making convinces me otherwise though...
Rush Limbaugh went over the line. Plain and simple, cut and dried. He's just another know-nothing ramblerouser that pushes the "panic" button when things aren't going his way and sits back and gloats when they occasionaly do. Why do they call themselves "dittoheads"? Because they are sheep in Limbaugh's eyes, hanging on every syllable his fat *** utters without question, beyond review - for they are scripture to their ears.
He's just a blowhard ***** with a microphone collecting huge money feeding of the false fears of his listeners to justify their attention to his rants and make money for his sponsors.
If Powell would have run for president in 2000 I would have left my job to help the man - I once spent a couple of hours with him when he was post commander at Ft Carson and I was duly impressed (won;t go into that this post is long enough
). Honestly, gentlemen, if you can get the chance to hear him speak, you'll realize what kind of a man Colin Powell is. I suppose that's why Limbaugh's rants bother me...
But here's the challenge, mates, forget Ayers, forget Sen Obama's middlename, disregard all the nonsensical bs being bantered about and let's see how this next 4 yrs pans out.
It would be nice to see us "united" again... as Americans.

Hey, Ghetto...
No man is an island, and no President is a monument unto himself. Every President, of modern times, has close advisors and with whom they surround themselves with shows their true measure. Ask any military man - no mission is accomplished alone and you're only as good as your men will allow you to be.

Well said. I wasn't trying equate Obama to JFK, just pointing out the absurdity in Bogie's statement. To be honest, I think McCain would make a good president and I respect his many years of service. Initially I was actually on his side. But as the campaign progressed he didn't/still hasn't convinced me hes the better candidate. The smear campaign, the ridiculous choice of vp, and the support of rightwing nutcases like John Hagee, Limbaugh, Jerry Falwell, Rod Parsley don't really help either. Not to ignore people like Jeremiah Wright or Ayers but their reach and influence pale in comparison to the divisive bible-pushing, anti-big govt, anti-gay, anti-every-other-religion rhetoric of the neocons.
People are so polarized, both left and right, they refuse to even listen to anyone opposing their point of view; and the fearmongers like limbaugh just fuel the fire. That us against them mentality is still so prevalent in our society. We truely won't be a United States until that ends. IMO Obama represents a better step in the right direction.

Please don't even start about McCain's choice for vp. No one likes Joe Biden. His own party wouldn't even put him on the ticket for President. He's a downright jerk. He even said Joe the plumber wasn't a real plumber because he didn't have a liscence, never mind the fact that that man still makes a living plumbing. As for Obama, I don't like him because I'm a racist, bitter (well I may be a bit bitter after he said that statement), Pennsylvanian; I don't like him because I don't like his policy. Plain and simple. I also think Joe Biden is a left wing nutjob and I don't like his policies either. Because he's so new to Government and has never experienced military, I just don't feel safe with him calling the shots. Maybe in 4-8 years, but not right now. That's my final two cents, I'm done with this thread.
As for military experience, with the exception of George Washington (who almost became King George of the United States, and actually didn't want to be the first President), the second, third and fourth didn't have any at all.
Currently, Jimmy Carter was the only recent President to serve a four year term without having the US in a formal military conflict.
Leadership comes from many facets of experience. Some are made, some are born. Each leader's style is different as well and what we have seen in the past few weeks is the difference between Senators McCain and Obama.
I'll take a cool headed visionary over a hot blooded maverick any day of week, mates.
Ask any soldier, war is hell. We train for it to be ready when the call comes. But no one looks forward to it...
