Looking for ideas!
OK, my son's 18th B-Day is coming up in less than two months.
I want to do something special for/with him, for his 18th. Special but LEGAL, OK.
think back to your 18th (for some of you it will only be a matter of weeks or months. For others, well, fuhgheddaboutit!
What do you wish YOUR Pops had done with/for YOU for your 18th? Or, if you actually liked what you were treated to, what'd'ja get?
Bear in mind, I'm (relatively) poor until my support payments end, at the END of teh month of his Birthday.
Background: His moms & I split up when he was 2. From then until he was 13 he only ever saw my about every other year, or so, because I was in Europe serving my country and having a grand time doing it. From 13 until present it's been every other month, at MOST, that I've driven up to MI from MD to spend w/e's with him & my daughter. He's seen me every B-day & every holiday since 2001, but only for a weekend at a time. I'm gonna take about a week off, around his B-Day, and spend it with only him. Not his Sister (who's 20, now), and certainly NOT his psychotic ***'d Mother. Just him.
Your suggestions:

take him to that "comfort inn" you liked so well. (j/k)
sounds like it would mean more to give him your time, than your money. can you drive somewhere for a mini vacation? go to a car race? fishing? white water rafting? whatever he likes to do, then do that.

Hey, we got a few Ladies (females, at least; I'm assuming they're Ladies) on the bords. I'm curious as to what feminine voices hafta say a Man should do with His Son, as a right of passage (which is what this is all about), one the occasion of His Son's 18th Birthday...

take him out to do everything possible that you have the right to do when turning 18.
buy him some ****, a nice cigar, take him to the strip club. all that good stuff. that would be awesome.

As near as I can tell, from 4 states away: Basketball, Girls, Cars (that, given his current demonstarted desire to pursue higher edgeuhmuhkashun, he'll NEVER be able to so more than just dream about), PlayStation (if gaming ever becomes a professsion maybe he WILL be able to afford those cars he dreams about), making semi-humorous comments about people, in particular, and life, in general... And not much else...
