Default My day at the dealership...

So I test drove a 2006 A6 and S4 today. My impressions of the A6 were that it is a very nice car. It was fully loaded with every possible option, so that part was sweet. I didn’t like the gearing very much or the way the power came on. It was also kind of like driving a Lexus in that I didn’t feel in touch with the road at all. It wasn’t as mushy as a Lexus, but I think it is a bigger feeling car than I want. I will say that you can tell that Audi made a real effort to make this car a real step up from the 4 series.

I loved the S4. It was a manual, so the whole thing was a bit more sporty, but the overall feel of the car was right. I’m not always hauling around a full carload of 6ft+ guys, so I think there is plenty of room in the back for my needs. I still don’t know what I’m gong to do though.

The Audi dealership is also the Porsche dealership, so I had to check them out as well. I didn’t drive any though. I did see both a 996 GT2 and GT3. They looked hot. I got my service done for less than I thought it was going to run, so that was cool. Then I sat around talking to the master tech about what mods I could do to the car and what they would cost. He said I could do full headers, downpipes, hi-flo cats and exhaust and would see around a 30hp+ gain. A few problems with that – it would be over 5K, hard to find the perfect kit for my car because they didn’t make that many of them, and not keeping it stock would very likely diminish its value. He told me to get a 993. I don’t see it right now. My car has mechanical fuel injection and we talked about replacing that with electronic fuel injection with large injectors and a remapped ECU. He said that would make the car a monster. So the modding potential is there, but I think I would rather put the cash towards an Audi. Salesman told me that the new S6 would start around $74,000. That’s more than I want to throw down. Keep thinking about an 07 S4 though as I flip through the brochure now, but I should really be looking at the Mannheim site to see if any S4s are going to be at aucitons nearby.

They didn't have one yet. The ones they have coming in are already sold. There won't be any test drives of those bad boys.

I saw both a 997/911 C4 and a C4S convertible($111,000). The C4 looks so fat and badass from behind. Obviously, it has a great interior too.

Ya def does. Im not a huge fan of the 996, however they can be had for about $60,000 with low miles & nav etc. I love AWD 2-door cars.

Yeah, the 996s can be picked up for fairly reasonable amounts now. The turbos still demand a premium. And 996s have the best aftermarket support, so you could put a supercharger on a 996 C4 and make it scary to drive.

My choice would be the S4 over the A6. I think the A6 is a beautiful car and the interior is amazing. It is too much of a luxury car for me though. Your review summed it up perfectly. It is a beautiful place to spend alot of time commuting or cruising around but I just didn't feel part of the car.

The S4 suits my requirements better that's all. I prefer smaller, more performance orientated cars.

Now a 997 C4S?[sm=drooldude.gif]

May have to wait and see if those C4S depreciate a bit before jumping on that.

I forgot to ask if all S4s have only the SD card for mp3s or if the changer can read burned cds as well.
