Default Offset question (for another car, not an Audi)

OK, in general I'm up to speed on offset but I want to get a quick opinion from a couple of you.

My GF has a 93 Civic whose OEM wheels are a 4x100 bolt pattern with a +40 offset. I want to put a pair of snow tires on the front, and I'm going to use a pair of wheels that I source so I don't have to deal with dismounting and remounting all-season tires each time winter begins or ends.

I remembered that I had a set of wheels from my old beater Sentra behind the garage. Looked them up on TireRack.com and they're also a 4x100 pattern with a +38 offset.

Bolt patterns are the same, lug count, etc, but there is a difference of 2mm offset. If that amount of offset makes a difference, is it going to matter here? Or would it matter if her car had +38 and the prospective winter wheels had a +40?

Her car has +40, these potential winter wheels are +38. I'm going to test-fit them all the same (they have regular tires on them) but I can't do it until tonight since she's working. I know that caliper clearances are a big deal with this, but the Civic has such small calipers that I don't think it'll be an issue. I just want to get some advance opinions is all. Anyone think these should or shouldn't work?

it will def work. if it was like 10mm i would be worried but 2 won't be a problem. hey you got any time the 29th or 30th to do a brake flush on my dumb car?

I figured so. If worse comes to worst, I'll grind the caliper lol. And yeah, no sweat - we'll flush it out then (or earlier if you want). You see my reply to your other post about the brake problem?

I do believe they'll work just fine.If I remeber right you can go with a smaller offset, its upping the offset that will cause problems.

Yeah, these will stick out 2mm further... no need to grind anything. :P

LOL, I thought that was the way it worked - I think I saw that for the Blazer for example, the 2wd had a normal offset, but the 4wd with the dished wheels ran like -50. Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I have a hit on a set of wheels and snows here in town, but if they fall through, I'll get snows on these and use them instead.
