question about owning a rifle
well iv been into shooting sports for a while, more like long range sniping type of shooting. the only thing is i have had tis POS .22 for the last few years and ive been looking for an upgrade. thing is i dont know if i need a special permit to get a sniper rifle (of a .308 calibur) ive been looking into some rifles at snipercentral.com and im also still searching around. if i go to a retail store and get one what are some things ill need? aper work wise? or if i go to an FFL dealer what would i need to show them?
Correct, depends where you are. In Texas you just have to fill out some paper work and wait for them to process it which takes about 10 minutes. .308 is a great cal. I have a remington 700 sps in .308 with a leupold mk4 lrt 3.5-10x scope for it. there is a wide range in quality ammo that you can shoot and plenty of it. the gun doesnt kick much and its very controllable. before you decided on a cal you have to figure out what your going to use it for the most, hunting, plinking, ticticool or what ever. what kind of rig are you looking at?
Word, Oregon be rockin that way too. 10 min. background check and your on your way.
same with ohio, but im curious why you would want to go from a .22 to a .308, thats def. a big jump...are you going to be competing in compitions?
I would say though i still love shooting my .22 plinkster now and again lol

Sounds like he's just into long range target shooting (or I hope at least).
.223 is great, freakin FAST lead with that thing (3000+ FPS Muzzle Velocity), so it shoots flat for quite a ways.
I have a Rem .222, only complaint is that .222 is harder to find locally, and what I can find is always about $1/round ballistic tip.
