Radar Detector for Christmas?
Thinking of buying myself a Valentine One for Christmas, but I'm rather perplexed. Don't know a whole lot of people with radar detectors, and the only person I know with a V1 has more tickets than anyone else I know. Is he really that stupid? (Or perhaps the E46 M3 is just that tempting...)
Anyone out there got a V1? Or any detector, for that matter? Seriously thinking of Secret Santa-ing one of these to myself, but I've never lived with one for more than two weeks at a time (when I was driving said M3, and without being pulled over despite somewhat "spirited" driving 90% of the time).
I did notice it picking up on a lot of bullshit in town... He claimed it was garage door opening systems. Switching the V1 to "City" cut down on the interference, but it could still be annoying.
Main question: What are these things like to live with?
Oh, and a pic for people that actually bothered to read:

a radar detector is not an automatic get out of a ticket. it's to warn you that there is a cop ahead and you should probably slow your *** down. idk what they use around your area but no matter how good of a detector you have a laser gun will trump it due to the speed of the laser. what you should get is a laser jammer with the V1. passport has a cool one where it has a GPS locator so you can set the locations where BS signals or BS traps are.
the V1 is fantastic though. i borrowed Frostyflakes and i absolutely loved it. it actually helped me from getting 2 tickets. i actually recommend the passport 9500 though

I have the V1 in the B5 and love it. I don't drive as fast as I used to but it did work and saved me on several tickets at a time.
You are right about it being annoying when you drive around cities. They do pick up signals from doors and some other electronic devices.

I thought laser jammers were illegal. Wouldn't rule em out, though.
It's clearly not a get out of jail free card, but if it can spot a cop before I can / do and give me adequate time to slow down, I'll be happy. Tickets for me are usually $150-200 because I opt for court supervision--two tickets, no points. Goddam expensive, though.
Thanks, guys.

they make a clear coat that absorbs radar signals. you could try that and see if it works lol. they also make a clear film for the license plate so cops can't spot it. don't know how legal it is but i've seen it being sold on a website before
