Default Radar Detector

I'm shopping a nice 06 A6 and the only 12V outlet I can find in the pictures is behind the shift lever in a storage box. My Radar detector which works quite well (Beltronics) has always been mounted on the sun-visor but that's a mile from behind the shifter..I hope I'm missing another power outlet closer to where it's needed? How are you guys doing this?

You need to trade down to an 03-04 which has a cigar lighter in the front console in the ashtray and another one behind the center console. If you're unwilling to do that (and I can't tell you anything about the new A6), then an alternative is to hotwire a cigar lighter under the dashboard, wire tied out of sight, and use that for your Bel. BTW, my Bel 965 works great.

Just get a hardwire kit for the radar detector, and wire to the power and ground under the lower dash panel.

Yup..looks like a rewire..I'm thinking there may be 12v wire access in the console above the driver where the reading lights are.. the under the dash scenario scares me especially knowing my skills... I'd tap into something critical. there's a million wires under there..but I should be able to somehow find those cig plug wires if I can't do the overhead thing. thx all

Just for info..Beltronic's actually has a 25ft straight cord, heck I could run it into the trunk at that length.
