Roof Rack Question
I just installed a Yakima roof rack. More wind noise than I expected. Anyone have a roof rack that is using one of the front fairings? Want to know if it reduces the wind noise or not.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Ah you shoulda bought saris! They are like 2" shorter... I have NO CLUE why thule and yakima feel it is necessary to mount the load bars like 3 feet above the roof
But yes, fairings help a lot with noise, I have one on my saris rack.

For some reason there were not many places that carried Saris....and I have always had good experience with yakima...anyway...I'll try the fairing and if it is still too noisy. then off to eBay with the yakima!
i've had yakima and thule racks and the wind noise is pretty bad..it just about doubles the total wind noise...the saris rack is awesome for bicycles, but when you start loading up snowboards, you need the clearance that the yakima provides...i've used mine with and without the fairing, and it does help, moreso at higher speeds (50mph+)
I think the snowboard attachments offer like 2" lift or something. Who knows... I looked at all of them, and waited and waited until I found a used saris... while dozens of used yakima's and thule's came and went. I'm very happy with the saris.
Hopefully the fairing makes it better, if you end up selling it, talk to oscar on this forum... oscar3 might be his screenname. he just bought a saris, and got a great deal I think.

I'll be using the snowboard carrier for the winter too....I guess the extra Yakima/Tule clearance is for putting two snowboards together base to base or for skiis and binding clearance. Generally I wouldn't put a snowboard facing the roof, bindings have too much opportunity to flap all over the roof, and I am sure that i am too lazy to secure them properly.
Anyway...I'll give the fairing a try this weekend and make up my mind on keeping the yakima or upgrading to the saris.
