first car was a 86 4000S, paid $500 for it. It had weird problems I couldn't figure out, and fixes were expensive, but I loved that POS. Totaled it on a very heavy buck (10 point, hooray for me), and moved on to a much newer A4. That car was sexx, but eventually I totaled it falling asleep at the wheel. So I moved to a 180hp TT, and then to a 225 TT. I see no reason to bother with BMW.

Actually, after doing the Audi Driving experience, and getting behind the wheel of an AWD BMW, Lexus, and MB, I really don't see much comparison. The BMW had nicer seats, no comparison for anything else. Loved how the BMW had massive (I'm talking second or two) lag between stomping the go pedal, and actually getting the car to accelerate when it thought I was loosing it out of a turn. As my rally driver friend put it... 'When in doubt, flat out.' The BMW was more like 'When in doubt, hesitate'.

I do like those seats though.

How do Audi, BMW, and MB compare for Germans? My grandfather says back in the 70's, MB owned the autobahn. I feel like MB is in a decline. I think the M3 and M6 are okay but BMW makes nothing like the R8. The RS4 smashes the M3 and the S5 smashes the M6. I like how Audi has really been able to share technology between all their cars with Porsche and Lamborghini.

the main factors for me were money, and quattro.

for the dough i was spending on a car, my best and favorite option as well as most sought-after was the 1.8T A4. I looked patiently for over a year. I missed out on an A4 (in vermont) that I wanted so bad, and no BMW ever came up that I was seriously interested in.

Before I bought my santorin B5, I wanted to go check out this 2000 540i 6 speed, amazing condition but had 130k miles, which was the ultimate factor in picking the A4. It only had like 75k and was a lot more appealing to me.

It really did come down to the 540i and the A4, but RWD where I reside wouldn't have been the best choice overall.

haha i really like the way my cupholders come out of the dash...

but in all honesty, I didnt really even look specifically at german cars when I bought my A6. I really wanted an Sti, but decided insurance would be too much. Found my A6 at a Ford dealership, test drove it, and fell in love. Ive had it for 2 years now and no regrets

well i gotta go with the way the electrical system worked. I figured it just wouldn't be as exciting to drive knowing if the windows would go up, and that the lights would all work, and there weren't any fuses blown.

no but my first 85 5000s was given to me...my grand father felt that he could no longer drive stick. then i decided that being in VT i needed Quattro...i wanted a UR Quattro but couldnt find one in my price range...so i got an 87 4000 Quattro. still have both. then i just saw a really good deal on craigs list for a 87 5000 Quattro Turbo...so i go that too. now i have 3 audis in the drive way but i still am not satisfied i feel that 4 rings just isn't enough...and with that said how many does BMW have? see its all numbers.

I agree. I find it funny how BMW had to dip into turbocharging in order to keep pace with Audi.

I bought my A6 because it was the best priced and most beautiful car available for my price range. First car I ever purchased as well.
