Default Storyland I & II Auto-X

Yay! My first auto-x in my A4! She plows like a Scion tC! Not good! Day one I placed 7th out of 15 novices, with a top time of 70.something seconds (the top time of the day was (55 seconds set by an obscenely modified Civic [:@]) Out of all my runs, though, I only hit one cone, and had one off course. Hooray for not murdering my paint!

Today is day two and I hope to do much better! Final results and such to come later, but for now....

Day one was kinda depressing, there was a FWD TT a 20V 90 Quattro, and my A4 as the only audi's there. Plenty of Volkswagens, Rabbits, Jettas, and GTIs so we all represented from the Motherland!

Update!

Hooray! I'm no longer a novice! I placed fourth out of the 15 novices with a fastest time of 62.723 seconds!

I'm happy. I totally spanked the poser with his STI, and I came so close to beating the EVO!

Nice work man, sounds like a blast. I'd love to compete in that... You should really consider doing some acceleration mods, I can't believe your coming near evos.. how embarrassing for them. Just chip your car and throw on a testpipe and you'll feel twice as fast as before and can prolly place top 3. It would be a huge huge difference and help out a lot, then get new suspension and all that... and you got yourself a car that accelerates decently and handles amazingly. Good luck, keep us updated.

The way to get better driving a car is to learn everything about it and how to control it when its stock, then upgrade the car as your skill improves. Plus, chip, turbo, testpipe and all that jazz takes me out of stock. The first thing I'm going to do are handling mods, I'll stiffen up the rear and make the front a little softer, give myself a little negitive camber in the front, and some better tires so I can curb the plowing and get my car to rotate. Once I get it to a point where I can make it handle like a slot car, then I'll make it faster. Besides, when I make it handle better, I'll be faster anyway.

I agree with you on these points. I drove a '76 Volvo 242 for almost 4 years when I was in High School.I think it had a 1.6l or something. That was a monster tank of a car. Your remark about keeping it stock for awhile makes great sense to me. Which reminds me of another vehicle I drove...

An'89 F-150 4.9l I6 shortbox that gave me cumulatively 5 great years of transportation and 2 poor years was great fun up an down trails. As for the street it had less than 200hp, but enough torque to match a stock '02 Prelude from a dig.

After driving both of those vehicles for so long I never really had the opportunity to make any major modifications. Now that I am deployed it is much easier to save money up, so I should have a B5 S4 in about 9 months which I intend on going Stage 3 very shortly thereafter.

As for Auto-X, I'm not familiar with all the rules, but if it is a stock only gig than I may have to pass. All in all though, its good that you are getting into something you like.

Good luck with it!
