Hard, heavy carbon buildup on the backside of the intake valves on your 4.2L causes multiple performance issues that commonly include rough idle, poor fuel economy, acceleration hesitation, and sometimes, an illuminated check engine light.

The cure for heavy deposits? Manual cleaning; and that means removing the intake manifold to scrape away the carbon. The last thing you want to do is make a vacuum leak by reusing the old gaskets.
