02 s4
hi all looking at a 02 S4 125k timing belt been done 2 owker according to car fax . no accident still beating salesman on price ..no mods been done .
what do except from this car since its auto beside normal wear ? what would be good price for this car ? they are asking 8900 but leary of the mileages. any input would be helpful .thank you

I purchased mine.. same deal as yours and it was 8500 after tax.. that was a year ago.. and it only had 118,000. 2002.. with nave.. had milltek exhaust too. Try and get him down a few hundred.. point out some flaws.. here and there. If you can get him down a few hundred i think it'd be worth it..
original turbos? also check for any slop in the transmission. like if there is any lag getting into gear. i would for sure try to get it down a little, but not that bad of a price for an 02. check the hoses for leaks, especially the throttle body boot. original diverter valves are prone to failure at this point too.
just keep in mind that if they are the original turbos you will more than likely be replacing them soon.

update 02 S4 wow what a peice of abused crap ,salesman lied to me about everthing too bad about it . he had no maintence records after he said he did .but, also said timing belts were done .. make me think that he laid about that too. it least it started. plugged my vag scanner in it and found p1857 and alt was charging and did ready test and cats failed.. ouch and some kind buzzing came from top of it hwen stated . is that diverter valves that make that noise??? would not lower on price..oh well my quest still continues thank all
Hey Stigmata, I'm in the same boat... I've been looking at a couple of S4's in Arizona, because they don't have any chassis corrosion, like we see up here in Canada. The two I have found so far are also 02's with over 100K miles on them.
Question for Jason and Fonzo- I have never driven the S4 so far, so I don't know what trouble "feels like or sounds like" in a used S4. Other than major visible fluid leaks and clanking sounds, any subtle hints that say RUN AWAY!

blue smoke out the exhaust is a dead giveaway. the stock turbos tend to die right around 100k miles. so any smoke or "dentist drill" noises equal runaway!
check the wear on the t-belt to see if its been done recently.
1st and 2nd gear synchros also are a problem at this point too.
turn the wheel all the way to one side and see if it "squeals". this might be your ps going bad or low fluid.
clunks in suspension are probably bad shocks or blown control arm bushings or bad end links.
bring a laptop and a vag-com cable and hook the car up to see what codes get thrown.
