Default 10k oil change interval reset?

I reset the service interval on my 2001 S4 and it went to 10k miles!
I looked in the owners manual that I got with the car and it does confirm that.
Is there a way to change that? I just ordered a Vag Com yesterday, so if it's possible with that where would I find out how?

I have a warranty with the car that requires 3k oil changes, which is going to get expensive with synthetic. Yes I could just wait until it says 7k but it would be one less thing for me to think about to have it my way!

Ijust purchased a new MINI S andit comes with a full service plan for first 3 years. Even with the turbo, using full synthetics, they dont change the oil for 15,000 miles. CRAZY... I change every 6,000 with synthetics in the SRT-8, and they recommend every 3,000.

WHY are vendors and dealers so all over the place in regards to oil changing intervals.

the 10K oil change is the leading reason so many S4s bake turbos. I change mine at 3K religiously and it has the original turbos on it at 125K miles with no noise.

10k would be fine for your audi if you did normal driving. you know none if the fun stuff no pushing the engine hard. and not alot of stop and go traffic. but we all want to push the car to the limits to beat out the evo and sti or what ever else tries to race us.

vendors hammer 3k in your head because they want you to keep coming back... i think itstarted with Jiffy Lube back in the 70s or 80s, that's when they started the 3k oil change... to get people to keep coming back, they argued that most people don't check their cars regularly enough and need to have a certified mechanic look over the car, they just told people to get their oil changed.

(this story may be a little off, as I vaguely remember reading or hearing it)

i think i'd be more worried about my oil filter... how long are those good for?

3k is a little insane! I would do at least 6-7500. Really the only way to know if the oil needs to get changed is to have it tested! If you must do 3000mi, then just use dyno oil, it will be FINE!

There is no way to change the service reminder.

Shawn, we have a 08 Cooper S on order also! It should be here late March, so excited, the turbo is so sweet!

2k S4 - NICE, yeah we ordered ours on December 24th, and picked it up Thursday. It has got ALL the goodies... you have got to get the lounge leather, it is unreal, stereo is very nice with NAV, and convenience package with keyless entry and start.
