2000 S4
What do you guys think about a 2000 S4 6MT with
65k on the clock,
1 failing turbo, quoted 1700 to fix, possibly going straight to K04's
decent service records,
Salvage title due to being rear ended. Looks to be repaired pretty well.
Timing belt/ water pump, all fluids changed at 57k
Engine and tranny mounts done
Clutch, tires and brakes good.
Clean interior,
navigation,
$8700

OK... I have a auto body shop here in fresno... And personally I would not advise getting a salvaged vehicle unless you have proof showing everything like Damage before getting fixed and all that other stuff you said was really done... LIke I bought my car from a auction that has mostley salvaged vehicles... I had small damage on the front. But it added up ALOT...I buy myself salvaged vehicles because I am the one fixing it... And I know that I change all the parts with good parts... My car also had a "GOOD CLUTCH" but right when I got it chipped I realized that the clutch needed changing... But if everything you say he said is true that it's a good price... My car costed me about 12 but that is with EVERYTHING fromt he dealer... And I repainted the WHOLE car... It's actually really cheap for that... He either can't sell it and is just trying to get ANYTHING back... Or there is something wrong with it... There is NO way this car could have costed this guy less than 8,700...
[:@] salvage title - due to being rear ended?
means theres a good chance of frame damage..
not all salvage titles are bad though - Ive had a salvage title from teh auction bec. the
engine was flooded - or bec the interior was stripped...
i'd be careful of frame damage though...
youve got a good deal there Will - $9k...but after all is said & done -
potentially u may be spending the same or more than a non salvaged title...
why not search for a preowned certified?? w/ warranty etc...
plus youre going to have a hard time if you ever want to get rid of it / sell
the car due to the title...

Okay, took the car to shop to get it checked out. They said the frame was in very good shape, much better than they expected, and that their are no fluid leaks at all. They also said I could bring them turbos (which I can find refabbed ones for like 250 a pair) and they would install them for a pretty reasonable price. The only thing bad I learned on this checkup was that brakes are a bit worn, and it has a vacuum leak from having a boost leak removed. I bet I could get the car for a bit less. like just over 8 or so.... thoughts?

The vacuum leak/boost leak is properly what helped lead to the blown turbo.
I DO NOT beleive you that it has no oil leaks.
Really it's all up to you. $8k is a good price, but at the end of the day it is a salvage. No bank will finance you for it, & some insurance companies will not insure it. You will always have a very low resale. If it's the car you want in the price you want, then it's what you want.
I will not need financing if i get it, and is it true that a lot of insurance companies will not insure the car? a lot of people on AZ say its no problem. The reason the turbo blew is one diverter valve getting stuck closed or open, and there is an oil leak you are right... it is into the turbo. D you think used K04's would be a good idea? if i could find them for less than 2500 with hardware
