Default 2000 S4 Instrument Cluster

I am rebuilding a theft recovery 2000 S4 and I cound not find a 2000 S4 Instrument cluster and instead I got a 2001 1.8T cluster. The problem is that the RPM Gage is not working, all the other things, like temp, gas, oil temp, abs, airbag, etc are working but not tachometer.

Is this normal? Do you think that maybe a 2.8 cluster might be a better choice? (since the 2.7 is very much based on the 2.8 engine)

My buddy tried to do the same thing you just did. He was replacing his because the digital read out was out. He tried a 1.8 and a 2.8 neither tachs worked in the s4, so he bought a used s4 cluster off ebay w/ similiar miles and worked great. Dont waste your money on a 2.8 or 1.8.
