Hey guys,

Im about to buy a 2000 S4 but before i climb into one i would like to know what sort of mechanical issues i should look out for? also i have read some posts and it seems that the turbos dont nessicarily like being chiped or otherwise tweaked is this common, i dont want to buy the thing and then find out that if i mod it at all its gonna open up a can or worms!

Also when i go to do a pre purchase inspection what things should i look for? and what questions should i ask? thanks again guys!

You really need to just peruse over some archival posts - there is really quite a lot to consider. You will likely have to sink some $$ into usual wear & tear items - both with the egine & suspension. Engine & car takes to modding well - but factory (K03) turbos are potential weak spot (even unchipped I think) - depending how driven. There are many other possible wear & tear items - DVs, hoses, suspension, timing belt... etc etc just to name the most prevelant (but there are more). B5 S4 is a great and rewarding car - but not cheap to maintain or fix and not Honda/Lexus reliable by a long shot.

i have checked the forums back 4 or 5 pages and found a bit of the info i was looking for but it seems better to ask and get fresh answers or links ot helpful stuff. thanks for putting up with all my crap guys !
