Hello all,

I have an 01 B5 S4 6spd. After reaching normal driving temperatures, while at idle, or even with the motor shut off, I will hear what sounds like a jet engine spinning up for say a 20-30 second duration, then will wind down.

Even after the motor has been shut down over 10 minutes, the noise will start up and wind down until what seems like the motor has cooled down sufficiently.

I've read a lot of threads on B5 A4 1.8T cars where the SAIP (secondary air injection pump) is failing, needs repair/fix.

I have not come across any for the B5 S4 but the symptoms seem the same so wondering if anyone with an s4 like mine has experienced this.

2001.5 S4 with 195,000 miles and still pulling.

 

yeah. i agree.. secondary air injection pump sounds at fault. IDK if these V-8's have a fan clutch or anything, that would be my second guess, but if you dont have one.. id suggest checking that pump..
