2001 S4 Bose system
I'm getting a 2001, hopefully 2001.5, S4 in may. i had subs and an amp in my previous car and had planned to transfer these to the audi. unfortunately my car was broken into and everything from my subs and amp to my speakers, headunit, radar detector, and garage opener were stolen [:@]. I was wondering if anyone knew the power ratings on the bose system and if it was worth it to reinvest in new speakers, a headunit, subs/amp or just add subs to the standard bose system. any help with this would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
I put a system in my 2001 S4...the bose system is amazing (as far as stock stereos go), however when i put the system in (2 12" kenwoods/ 450 watt amp) it took it to a whole new level.
my advice is to invest in a quality but less powerful system because:
a. you do NOT need a headunit because the s4 come w/ 2 preouts
b. the bose amp works with the stock speaker and adds to the power of the subs
let me know if u goy any questions..hopefully this post helped

yea cus i used to have an expedition and i bought the system for that car and bought an alpine headunit and when i got the S4 i switched the system into the audi and i noticed that there were enough preouts...also the S4 headunit has more capabilities (access to the 6 disc changer, single cd, etc.) and i think it sounds better
flablunt, do you have any recommendations? i was thinking 2 rockford fosgate 10" subs with 200 RMS power each (P210S4) and an alpine v power class D amp, 400 watts x 1 at 2 ohms (mrp-m450). or if i got a multi channel amp, could i power the speakers and the subs at the same time?
well lets put it this way...In the S4 i have the 2 Kenwood 12" subs peaking at 1000 watts a piece (500 RMS) and a mono (single channel) Kenwood 450 watt amp...with the way i set it up i had the "weak" 450 watt amp powering only the subs and the stock bose amp powering the stock bose system..its ******* loud...you dont need to go all out cuz no matter wat u throw in there it will sound 2x as loud as you think it will..
so..i think the 10" fosgates are money (but if ur budget is bigger get some JL's) and for ur amp...if u wanna power ur subs and speakers at the same time get the multi...but i suggest getting a mono to power the subs only.. because the way the bose sound system is set up is with a one channel amplifier that takes frequencies from all channels and puts it into one bass channel (hence its ability to bump) so if u get a mono it will be more efficient

My suggestion:
1. Get a phatbox (mp3 player for our cars)
2. Do the mod that messes with the Bose system's hidden settings (sounds MUCH better after)
3. Amp and sub/subs (i have an audiobahn amp and audiobahn sub waitin to go in)
4. If you arent satisfied with the sound of your speakers from the bose system, get MB Quarts.
and if you do get 2 subs (10's or 12's regardless) you will have plenty of thump, so to get some more of the bass to come into the cabin, take out the stock subs on the rear deck (not sure how this sounds, but i've heard good things)
