2001 S4 Manual Won't shift
I did search on this and there wasn't any clear info on what specifically could be the problem. I was driving the S4 today and pushed in the clutch to shift and it was very difficult to get it into gear. I pulled into a parking lot and tried to shift into all of the gears with the clutch in and it wouldn't go in. I shut the car off and started it in gear and it shifted to seconded fine then stopped going into gear. So now the car will not shift into ANY gear with the car running and clutch in. I had to start the car in gear and shift without the clutch to get home. The clutch in not fully disengaging. I talked to an Audi mech and he stated he has seen the same symptoms on an A4 and it turned out to be the pilot bearing. He also stated that if it was the slave or master cylinder the clutch would feel different. There is no brake fluid leaking and the clutch has 70k miles on it. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

pilot bearing would be a noise heard.. (bearings) if you have an S4, im sure you have something similar to the SAC mechanism to adjust the clutch/pressure plate as the clutch wears. i think you need a new clutch. especially, if you cant push the clutch in while the car is running but can when the engine is off. or it could be a slave cylinder/master cylinder. but my vote is clutch.

Thanks for the reply. I am planning on dropping the trans for an inspection. I have to drive 30 miles to the garage without a clutch, so it should be interesting. I will post what I find. The pedal still feels the same and there is no brake fluid loss from the reservoir, so I'm pretty sure the problem isn't in the hydraulics.
