Smile 2002 D2 S8 cooling fan and coolant

Hi guys (girls);

Newbie from Oz, and I am just about to but a 2002 D2 S8.

I have been planning this for about 2 years and finally found the right one.

I'm pretty happy with the car as it is, but there is one mod that I will definatly be doing - changing the engine driven cooling fan for an electrical thermostatically operated fan.

Has anyone out there in A/S8 land done this before? Any problems?

The mod will require custom fabrication of a shroud and fan mounts, but nothing too complicated. I'm intending to replace the aux thermo fan as well, and use a 2 stage thermostat, with one of the 2 intended fans also connected to the OEM thermofan - just to make the car think its still there (incase its controled by the computer somehow....).

There might also be the option of getting a custom alloy radiator made up (with the oil cooler mounted seperatly - what idiot thought of putting it inside with coolant???)

There seems to be plenty of space withe the OEM fan gone, and an alloy radiator is much more efficient, so I dont see cooling being an issue. It will also be mounted as a "quick release" radiator, so any work on the front of the engine (cam belt change) will just allow me to take the whole thing out - and change the coolant at the same time.

Now, about coolant: I have read that the coolant must be the 'red' type (as opposed to 'green'), but whats the difference, apart from the colour? - can anyone explain why? I'm intending to use Tectaloy Hi Load Red and I cant find any reason why I shouldnt, ad the local Audi dealer didnt either - but didnt seem to interested....modifying and doing work myself took $$$ from his pocket.

Thanks in advance,

Jack
