Anyone have too high of an idle speed in their S8(D3)
I have a 2007 S8 and after warm up, the idle is too high. So much so that I have to hold the brake pretty hard at stops, it is impossible to stop or start smoothly because the car is always straining against the brakes. It even climbs up steep hills at idle.
Because of the way the tach is marked, it's impossible to tell exactly what the idle speed is, but it looks like mine is at about 750 RPM. I'm thinking that if is was more like 600 RPM that it would be fine. When I mentioned the idle to the dealership -- more as a question of whether or not it could be adjusted, they of course said no -- that it was controlled by the computer. Of course, I'm sure there is a way to change the parameters (my old M5's idle was set by the computer, but a good tuner knew how to change it.)
Anyway, was wondering if anybody else had this issue or if not, if your idle speed was lower than where I think mine is at.
Thanks.

Hmm seems to me that 750 or basically anything under 1000 is pretty low as it is. I would guess that much below that and certainly around 600 it would get very rough. That is strange that you have to hold the brakes hard when stopped though. What did your M5 idle at?

I will find some way to get my idle lowered by about 150 RPM -- then it will feel much better. I am not too worried about roughness being that the engine has balance shafts.
