Default APR chip

I found a APR chip for my b5 s4. Im not sure yet if it is used or new. The guy wants $375 for the chip. Does this sound reasonable? I know they retail for more brand new. Is the installation of the chip easy, just replace stock ECU with the APR ecu?

its not a brand new ECU if thats what you mean for most, but im guessing he wants to sell you his ECU with the chip already downloaded or installed on it, its a good price, but as you know they retail for more, dont you wonder why hes selling it so cheap, especially if its the entire ECU, plus, if i were you and had $200 more I would go for a unitronic chip, they are a wee bit better from what ive seen and heard, at least on my b7s4, but its a diff engine so im not sure, goodluck

B5 apr chip is great, the cruise controll program switcher is amazing and yes you can still use cruise control.

I believe some of the earlier tuned ECUs had piggyback chips soldered on to the ECU, now most companies flash the ECU so theres nothing soldered onto it. Please clarify if you are buying the chip, a chipped ECU, or a flashed ECU. Also each different year has different ECUs for each transmission, auto and manual, coded like m-box, a-box, l-box etc. You should make sure your getting the same one you have, obv a tip ECU wont work on a manual etc

People debate which chip is best but they all do the job. GIAC might make the most power, but unless you have a flashloader or OBD switcher your driving around burning more gas than you need to. MTM is the smoothest, APR is a middle ground with convinent program switching. Others like unitronic speedtuning etc etc do the job too, just not as popular as the big names. Some shops like EPL will set you up with a custom stage 1,2 or 2+ tune for your car
