audi s4 test drive - need input before purchase
i test drove an audi s4 and came across some issues and need some feedback prior to purchasing it.
1. it appeared the radio is locked and it says "safe" on the LCD display; how hard is it to get a radio code? would this cost any money?
2. the key/transmitter appears to be dead. how common is it for these to die? the unlock and trunk opener buttons didnt work. how much would this cost and is the battery easy to replace?
3. how hard is it to get a newkey made? this car only has one key. how much would it cost since its a laser cut key? do i have to go to the dealership for it?

4. what does the tool kit/car jack cost to replace?
5. when using the power door locks - i noticed that the locks were lagging and delayed. it wasnt a fast motion. is this a common issue. should i be concerned and what woudl this cost? does the door lock regulator or motor go bad on these cars?

the car appeared to drive nicely.. transmission shifted well. engine pulled hard. i had a local mechanic check it out and he brought to my attention the rear diff was oily.. it wasnt leaking but it was oily. he also showed me under the engine when the car was on a lift there was some oil too. once again it wasnt dripping he said it looked to be in the area of one of the turbos and it may just need a gasket. he mentioned the valve cover that may be the source too.. i want to know if this is something that could cause a major issue or if others have had gone through these with minimal issues. how common are these and what would these cost to be fixed or what potential probs could these cause. keep in mind this is an 01 s4 with 96k miles for 9500.
1. The battery was disconnected some time recently. Check the owners manual, there should be a 4-5 digit code. If not, you need to check the dealership that SOLD the car 1st. They should have it
2. Check ebay, they're very cheap. Then go to a dealership and have them cut/program it. Dealerships are charging up to $300 for a new key... Ebay has then for $50
3. Same as 2
4. Check ebay as well. If not, call a dealership.
5. I thought the same thing when I got my Audi. But they're made that way. Very German.
9500 for a 96k S4 is a very good deal. Fortunetly, my A4 didn't leak any oil at all, anywhere. But it is very common for any car to leak a little. Make sure it's not pouring out. Check the carfax. Make sure there are no airbag deployments. If it's hit anything hard enough to deploy an airbag, it'll be a head ache later on... Good luck with the sale.
