i'm currently running mich. pilot sports and i hate them. next year im getting a second set of rims and hookin up some kumho ecsta v710's. from what i've heard from the other guys running them is that they're better than the hoosiers as far as grip, and they last longer too. if i were you id rock a set of street tires for the road, then bring the slicks and set em up at the track. as far as the aspect ratio, 35 series would be good, no more than 40 i'd say.
Are you having fun or are you competing?
17's will be slightly faster, and 225 or 235 is fine.
Yoko Advan, Bridgestone Potenza RE070, Pilot sport,
The good stuff.......
Avon Tech R-A, Hoosier A6, Kumho VictoRacer V700, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, Pirelli PZero Corsa, Yokohama ADVAN A048

If you just want to have fun & have a great street tire, Yoko Advan is my choice.
Nice S4 bro. Mine is black with black 18 inch Volk rims, tires are 225/40/18 Bridgestone Potenza SO3. I went autocrossing with BMW club in San Diego two weeks ago, had some fun, but it consumes tires. These tires are pretty good, not the best though, however, instructor was telling me that I can make big difference if I drop pressure from front tires. But the ultimate solution is getting slicks on a different set of wheels and go kick some ***. I was beaten by an M3 on a 1.1 mile track by 6 seconds, but he was a real track car with some serious tires. I had a good time running a bit better than most M3s, until 7 Lotus Elise' came with instructors driving them....
slicks are where its at. but as far as tire pressures, if i run about 44 in the front and 46-48 in the rear, it handles real nice on my $#!++ pilot sports, the back end seems to step out a bit and makes exits much easier and allows me to get into the straights faster.
