Default b5 s4 and b5 1.8t.. compatability issues??

k.. my good friend for years has a 98 1.8t quattro that just threw a rod and im wondering what his ride and my 2000 s4 has in common.. which parts are the same and may be worth both he and i getting together and doing business with to have some extra parts.. transmission, differentials and stuff.. or is it not even worth it....

Not enough to make it worth your while. motor, trans, rear end are all different; the interior is mostly different (99.5+ A4 would be more similar), fenders are different... rear bumper, trunk, doors could be interchangeable

hrm.. so would it be worth getting the car from him and dropping a 1.8t in it? i cant find any engines less than 1500 online.. he wants my 3rd car which is a volvo 960 and id love to have his audi and drop an engine in it... would be a great swap.. then i could go stage 2 or 3 with it.. what would that involve on a 1.8t? stage 3??

well you could go full blown BT with enternals and get a gt28 or gt30 turbo if you want some serious power from the 1.8

Not trying to be a smartass, but you should post the 1.8t questions in the B5 A4 forums.

They get way more traffic.

Probably because everybody and his brother has an A4

what you classify as smartass i classify as blunt humor from a best friend so i dont take offense at all.. so ill post or search the a4 forum and see how much power i can put to the ground cheaply with that 1.8t setup..

I wouldnt spend a penny on it. Either put the money into the S4 or save for the inevitable repairs on the S4

That's cool. I often thought of buying a 1.8t B5 A4 to screw around with.
For the simple fact that a big turbo kit would obviously be way cheaper cuz there is only one and it's probably easier to get to.

did a little research and the most id want to spend on the car is only going to get me 250 bhp and 300 ft.lbs of torque..i think that couple of grand would do better going towards the s4.. good call hp.. but that side turbo is so easy to access...
