Default B5 S4 transmission

So I'm looking at possibly buying a 2001.5 S4 6 speed. I know this is the year the transmission received the upgraded 1-2 shift collar and whatever else. However, with this particular car, the transmission was replaced with a used one because of a bent shift fork.

My question: is there a way to verify that it was replaced with another "upgraded" transmission and not the older version? Without removing the trans, obviously. Part number stamped on it anywhere? Different shape? Anything? Thanks...

b5 s4 never received upgraded 1-2 collars from the factory. if youve gotten a re-built one through jhm, stasis, etc then you probably have upgraded collars.

hmm, no? i read in someones S4 ad "01.5 s4 so already has updated 1-2 shift collars in transmission". i took that to mean Audi corrected the problem mid-year. obviously, that person could just be mistaken... now that you mention it, i am unable to find anything anywhere else that states they were updated from the factory

for some reason a lot of people believe this. its just an urban myth. i know the intake manifold is changed, f hose deleted and traction control button added.
