Default B6 - Maintenance on Timing Chain??

I'm the proud new owner of a 2004 S4 Avant with 68k. It isn't registered yet, so here I am after midnight practically memorizing the user manuals. I'm totally excited. And then... my heart skipped a beat.

I'll quote what the maintenance manual has this written for the 75k service:
"- Timing belt - Replace belt. (4.2L V8 engine only)(except Audi allroad and Audi A8) "

Now, I believe the S4 has a chain - not a belt. So, what's up with that requirement to change the "belt"? I'm thinking that I'll hear it if the chain or chain tensioner is ready to go. And neither will fail suddenly. So, unless I want to throw some money away, no need to pull the engine to replace the chain now. I'll wait until there are noises, and then take action. Knock on wood, I wont have to ever replace the chain.

Am I right? Thoughts?

Now I'm thinking - perhaps the 2004 Audi maintenance manual, which covers allAudis, was published before they determined the requirements for the chain? Can anyone quote from a 2005 maintenance manual if it mentions changing the belt or chain for the S4?

You dont have to replace the chain. Thats really weird because the allroad has the chain drive engine too. I wonder why they dont need to replace that chain. The a8 has a belt but probably a longer service interval. Like 105k miles. Probably a misprint.

its all down to oil and filter changes with the timing chain ( miss a few out and the tensioner fails ) the tension is hydraulic and works under pressure so dirty oil doesn't do it any good at all,
there is no specified change interval but you know when it needs attention due to excess rattle from the chain

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I'm feeling better already. I emailed Audi the same question so I'll post it here if they ever respond.
