Buying without seeing...
Hey all,
My first post here but im not a stranger to this board. Ive been reading on here for about 3 months now and Im finally getting close to buying an S4.
My question is this. Is there a major problem with buying a car, such as the S4, without ever driving it or seeing it in person?
I'm studying in London right now but just sold my car back home. I found a deal on a car back home but its like 500 miles away from my home town. If i was to get the guy to take it to a dealership and have them inspect it and drive it to make sure there is nothing wrong would this be enough? I've been looking for S4's for a few months now and this one has all the options I want at an incredible price. There is no way for me to see it in person but if I wait it will surely be sold.
What would ya'll do in this situation?
Thanks!!

Since you're new... check out the START HERE! (click this link) link to get a rundown of the lingo/vocab here at audiforums.
Then be sure to search the archives when you have a question. Chances are the question has been asked before (probably several times) and the archives will have plenty of information to answer your question. If you still need answers, please feel free to ask questions.
Don't feel intimidated; we are all a bunch of pretty cool guys (and gals). Feel free to post advice, comments, ideas, suggestions, and even pics.

SGS will do an independent un-biased inspection of the car (for a fee) and submit a comprehensive report of the car. You sign up and pay online for the inspection. Obviously you have to coordinate this with the owner, but it can be very worthwhile.

yea u def. wanna start up the engine, listen to how it idles, go for a slow cruise, see how it reacts, how it shifts, if its stick, how the clutch feels, and all that other good stuff. the car may look nice, how does it sound?
I fly home at the end of May. I found out last night why the price is so cheap. He said the owner before him wrecked it and messed up the front pass side pretty bad. He said it bent the frame! I thought that if you bent the frame that they would total the car. Anyways hes been driving it for a year with no problems. What kind of problems would a bent frame cause?
Its a 2000 with 48k miles and hes asking 15,000. Silver, black leather with white inserts, 6spd.
Help me out!

what if it just had a salvage title but was rebuilt and there was no frame damage and everything works fine now. I know I have done 6k worth of damage to a car and after it was fixed it looked and drove just as well as it did before the accident.
Basically it was wrecked and received a salvage title in TX. The guy fixed it and lost his job so had to sell it. Another guy bought it, drove it for a year, and now has too many kids and needs to sell. He says everything works properly and it drives like a dream.

I'm confused about this title business. If it had a salvage title, was fixed, then purchased by someone else, who drove it for a year and is now selling the car, wouldn't there be a new title?
