Calling all B6 owners!!
Howdy all... looking at getting an S4. In the debate process right now of B5 or B6. As I stated in another thread, I like the V8.. I had an 03 Hemi Ram that I loved and loved to tweak. I'm a little concerned to hear that the B6/B7 may be the flukes of the group since the B8 will go back to it's B5 roots (literally right? Twin T's). I currently own (please don't laugh) an 06 Accord. My plan is to either trade-in for a B6 (if that's what I end up deciding) or keep it for DD while I get a B5 and go as far as possible with it. Some things I have to consider is : Have 2 kids, so this will be a family car somewhat. 2. I travel quite a bit for a living.. mostly driving, so this thing will see quite a few miles.
So... my question is... what do you B6 folks think of your rides? How much modding have you done and with what results? What are your thoughts on the future mod capability of your ride?
Any regrets going with the B6?
Thanks!!

well since you want it more of a family car
go with a b5 just for the gas mileage
with a big v8 your gonna get horrible mpg
and the b5 is FAR more modable
and i think its one of the best looking cars out there
hope it helps=]

You can't mod a B6/7 too much because its NA. All you can really do to them without dropping $20k to mtm for a supercharger is intake, cat-backs, and a chip but these will only give you a marginal increase but the exhaust will make it sound awesome! They will also be more reliable than the B5's.
The b5 is gunna get better gas mileage, but not that much more...it comes down to your driving habits. The 2.7tt drivenhard isnt going to be better than a v8 babbied. The v8 is gunna be the faster car stock, but if your looking to mod, the b5 has much more available and can beworked to more power for less money than a b6 would. The b6 is going to be a newer car so its going to be more sophisticated. It seems like you want to play with your car and mod it from your original post so I would suggest a b5. Just remember, its going to be a lot harder to find a b5 with low miles than a b6. Personally, I went with the b6 so I could have a factory warrantee, a car that doesnt look like a kid racer mobile (not hating on the b5's just think the b6 is more refined), and a car with low miles.
I vote you go with the B6...I've had B5 and B6, and the refinement and V8 roar of the B6 is a beautiful thing! I like both genres, but I like the reliability and stock HP of the 4.2-drive both, then make an educated decision!
Most tuners just don't know how to tune the V8 N/A cars. They don't take the time or the effort needed to really pick apart the system. I have worked with the VAST Performance guys and they are working on all V8 Audi platforms. The 200-2004 4.2 software gives you real performance. performance worth paying for. The BMW tuners worked for months on end to make the BMW n/a tunes worth the money. The audi tuners seem to not want to put in the work unless it is easy like a turbo car. I Really think the V8 market will get a little more kick with the right tuner in it. Right now it seems like that is going to be the VAST guys.
Bottom line I would not give up on the 4.2.

Thanks all.... Baskin... how is VAST to work with? I found your video's before up on youtube and I liked what I saw. Although I'm not planning on a Tip, the 7200 RPM shifts are nice!!
I travel to Michigan frequently enough that I could come up for a few days and drop off my ride to have some stuff done.
Are the A6/S8 mods strictly for that platform, or will they work for the S4 as well? I noticed on their website (not a very good one I might add) that the 4.2 assembly only listed the A6/S8 models.
Thanks again!!
