Default Can you identify my wierd noise...

This is a new one to me. I tried to get my dealer to find out what this noise on my car was but they couldn't get it to make the noise. It sounds almost like metal on metal squealing but not grinding from the front of my car. Definately from moving not just from the engine. I can only seem to get it to make the noise when I'm going up an incline at a slow speed <20 mph. It will alternate between squealing and not about every other second. The slower I go the longer it squeals and louder it is until I stop. If I hit the brakes at all the sqeal goes away. I do have Porsche 993 turbo brakes on the front of my car. It seems like either something is rubbing that shouldn't be or like something needs to be greased up.

How long have you had the brakes? have you checked the wear on them? touch your rotors and see if they are still smooth or if they are starting to get grooves in them.

Brakes were on the car when I purchased it (noise has been there since then too). It has new pads... I've checked the rotors and it doesn't seem like there is any wierd wear on the outter part of the rotor.

On the A4 I used to have I had the same problem.... I had a bad brake caliper, check for that. When I was going slow and didn't have my foot on the brake it would squeal rediculously loud. Hope that helps.

Sounds like a wheel bearing, or maybe a CV joint.
