Default Close to buying b5 s4-Fast Intentions

Hi my name is Matt, I live in Arlington,WA, I'm 17 turning 18 in May, I completed 1/2 year of college and I am looking forward to buying a used Audi 6spd or Tip s4 real soon,as in the next 3 to 4 weeks. I know about insurance and car costs but that isn't a problem for me. I also know that there are some members on here that might be biased towards the fact I am young and don't think I deserve a car like the s4 or think I cant handle it and will end up in a power line somewhere. If you are concerned, please don't worry I'm responsible enough.

Okay down to business- I'm only going to be modifying my car to stage 2 with downpipes. No upgraded turbos for me I just want a sports sedan not a rocket ship. I plan on an APR chip because i like the ability of being able to change programs on the cruise control and after reading numerous posts on GIAC vs. APR i don't see a big enough difference. as far as a catback system I am looking into a custom one made by Fast Intentions. I called yesterday and i wanted the quietest one they had. They said they had one with resonators and a muffler but i wanted to know if anyone has heard or know if this catback is drivable. I'm not looking to get attention and I don't want drone in the cockpit. If you have any information that would be great and sorry for the long post.

PS. I know this has been discussed but if you can provide input on if i should get a tip of 6spd that would be apreciated. Im leaning towards the 6spd because its faster off the line and probably more fun but I like the Tip as well because it is easier(sometimes I get lazy). I am looking at two identical s4's and the only difference is the tranny.

thanks,

Matt

well the tip is often refereed to as the "dreadful tip" especially when your trying to chip it. and as far as being lazy i dont know if you drive a mt now but i know that most of the time i dont even realize im shifting gears. however the mt has had its issues, none for me personally but ive heard of them.

fast intentions is a great company, ive heard good things about their work. hit up some youtube videos. personally i like ASP, not loud when your cruising, but spectacular when you punch it, and great customer service.

and lastly the chip. apr is good and yes you can use the cruise to switch programs, but giac is a wee bit better in my opinion and you can get a handheld to switch programs.

Thanks for the reply RoboRabbit. I will be checking out ASP pretty soon on youtube. I searched about the Tip tranny and read good things about it when you chip it such as the increase in power and the faster response when shifting so i will search more and find out some more information.

On the chip I have heard that APR chips compared to GIAC can be a problem because the turbo boost spikes to high? is this a real defect or something I shouldn't worry about? The most I will be doing is maybe autocross about 3 days out of the year, other than that I will be on the road.

def go with the manual.. youll thank yourself as well as the rest of us later.. i agree with hippity hoppity.. you dont even realize your shifting and when you drop a gear you dictate the clutch let out and timing and everything.. its sublime.. especially if your buying the car for the same reasons i did.. to drive and enjoy, not just to commute.. as far as the chip i have apr and yes its nice switching with the cruise stalk... but have never tried giac or mtm i heard was another good one for you to look into.. and as far as exhaust i gutted precats and so no turbo lag.. so power comes on a little less subtle but man o man does it make a major difference throughout the revs... and my turbo spikes all the time to 21 psi.. ive been driving it this way for 6 months but im still not sure if i have a turbo upgrade... i bought it with 130000 on it and turbos still are perfect.. if you go stage 2 even then youll have to get a clutch upgrade.. my clutch is perfect in stock mode and slips a bit during low torque applications in the 93 octane mode.. like third gear from 2000 rpm up in a WOT pull...so im going with a southbend kevlar stage 3 and a rs4 pressure plate..
