Coils VS Springs/shocks
I have recently been in the market to upgrade my suspension. I have gone with spring and shock combos for previous cars and was recently tipped off to coils.
I was not down with the ride comfort of coils based on friends cars, but people tell me now they can adjust that. I just think it would be useful to dial in settings. Much like for the same reason I drive a manual transmission, I want that control.
So I come to my fellow B5 S4 drivers... which is better in your opinion and why? Explain what the advatages are of both.
If you know some good products or some sales going on, please let me know because I am in the market to spend $600 or $700... which might not be possible.

Technically, I can. They are labeled as coils and they are about $700.
Are they ****... or are they ok? Are they more tuned for show or go? Information I would like to know.

Don't know that this will help a lot, but I recently put Bilstein PSS9s (CO's)on my B7 and I'm very happy with the results. The ride isn't all that different than stock but the handling is 10x better. They are adjustable in terms of dampening. They are not cheap, however. I can't remember the exact cost because I had a lot done at the same time, but definitely over $2K installed. On a side note, if you don't already have a swaybar, get one. Very cheap and it makes a big difference.
A few years back I put just springs on my A6 and was not happy at all with the results. Handling still sucked and the ride was harder.

$700 for a set of coliovers? They're either:
A.) Pieces of $hit
B.) Stolen
If you're going the coilover route, I would recommend saving your money for a little longer and getting a good set of coilovers for more money. You'll be happier with the ride quality/performance.
I had them on my S4 and while the ride was stiffer than stock, it wasn't too rough.
I used Bilstein Sport shocks with Eibach springs and an ECS coilover set. Worked great for me.

Most of the time, your shocks are just about worn out. So you pay $250 for springs, plus labor, & wheel alignment. Well now your shocks are blown, & need to be replaced, for $500 plus labor, & a new alignment.
Oh, now your car is just a little to LOW or high, & you spend some money on CO & then install & alignment.
Just wait & save, then get some coil overs! The cheapest kits are like $1100, & Votglands are the way to go, can't beat a matched spring/shock combo!
