Default Computer chips positive and negative

I am thinking of chipping my 2006 B7 S4 6spd. I have never chipped any of my vehicles before and am worried about the possible negative effects. I use my S4 as my daily driver and plan on keeping it in good mechanical shape for the next 8+ years.

I also have a Milltek cat back exhaust soon being installed, as well as had my eyes on a set of Milltek cats and downpipes but am worried that the full system will be a bit too loud for my current tastes.

Have any of you had any bad experiences with chipping your B7 or any other for that matter? I want to weigh the benefits versus the negative possibilities of chipping. I am pretty much decided on a GIAC chip if I do it, and I always run 94 octane.

Thanks for all you input.

i dont know anything for sure but i wouldnt go over the counter with the chip. get VAST, EPL or JHM to get you an aggressive map. ive heard, not knowing from actual experience, that some of the N/A cars dynoed less after an OTS chip was installed.. JHM was working on nitrous as well.. that could be interesting....

IMO, it's a waste of money on the 4.2 You're not going to get much. Save your money for an exhaust system, or, if you have deep pockets -- go for a supercharger kit.

Thanks guys, no chip is pretty much the way I was leaning, but after your input for sure. I also did some research on Audizine and it looks like the best downpipe set up is actually to remove the pre-cats on the stock DP's and just run the main cat with a catback exhaust setup. I have only test drove a B7 with a Milltek resonated catback and want to get input on how loud an S4 is with this "piggie" DP set up with resonated Milltek cat back.

Sounds like the best performance back as well.
