Default computer failure

Hi all. I have a 2001 Audi S4 sedan. Over the weekend I was driving and my car suddenly stalled. I was able to start it back up after a few seconds. I pulled over and it stalled out again. It seems that when the car warms up, it doesnt happen. I took it a mechanic (non-dealer) and he said it was a computer failure and needs replacement. Has anyone encountered this issue and is it possible it could be something else. Also, any suggestion on where to buy one... dealer cost $1,100 and I was told not to buy used. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Or if you have any chip dealers around you they may have one laying around.

I know the place by me has stacks of b5 ECUs collecting dust.

Thanks for the tip. I got some clarification from the mechanic and he said the ECM needs replacement and I have been searching around and the cheapest one I have found was for $600.

And if it's chipped then your ultimately getting the ECU free.
