well i think you will be pleased to know (if you havent already) that the stock B7 V8 s4 motor produces 340 hp right off the bat. At the wheels, i have no idea. And chances are, it pretty much varies slightly from car to car...the only sure way is to have it run on a dyno. But, you can be rest assured that the v8 has a nice 340 ponies on it. if you get the automatic (tiptronic) version, running it in S mode really makes the heavy car come alive. D is pretty sedate...tranny shifts up to the next gear quickly. But S mode allows you to squeeze a bit more from each gear. then of course...there's the paddle shifters and/or shift lever (+/-) tiptronic which gives you the option to shift gears at your heart's pleasure. but all this comes with a price at the pump...so, if youre feeling frugal on gas, just leave it on D and take it easy on the right foot.

Sounds like you want a B6 S4 Avant manual. It has the 340 HP V8. I think you will see 13 MPG or more city and over 20 MPG on the highway from my experience and I drive pretty heavy footed. You might have to pay more than $20k for an Avant as opposed to a sedan. Good luck in your search. I am new to Audi ownership and love it. Much more comfortable than a BMW but still sporty.

Expect 22-23mpg at 65, 20 at 80, and 19ish at 85. These were the numbers I got driving back out to school. I was getting about 7-8mpg at 160
