Default Cost to replace turbos

Let me start off by saying i have read the faq's and read everything i could get my hands on in the last few weeks about these cars. I have probably spent over 40 hours on the computer trying to inform myself. From what I have read the common answer I have seen is it costs almost $6,000 to replace blown turbos(stock), i know its quite a bit more to go k04's plus goodies (fuel,maf,ect.). Is this number including labor, because I have seen brand new k03's for about 600 a piece with the gaskets. Wheres the other $4,800 coming from? I can do the labor myself, but i am looking to purchase an s4 in the next month but after seeing it cost $6,000 to replace the blown turbos i was a bit discouraged.

Thanks,
matt_t

Well. It is really involved to do it yourself. but if you have the time it would be great to get other items out of the way. (hard to reach gaskets and all that) But being that you are going to do it yourself you can get a K04 kit Gaskets, inlets, and hardware for $2,999.99 Check out the site. Just select your make model and year and select engine and scroll down to "RS4" There are lots of other goodies on there.

if you just want to replace k03s, then all you need to pay for is the turbo. if you wrench yourself, thats all you need.

Right. K03's would be the most straight forward if your doing it yourself. You just must do them in pairs. And I would get new gaskets and look into the coolant lines. at least clean them. I would replace them to be safe though. K04's will allow you to get more power. even if you get just k04s. down the road you can get fueling injectors so on and so forth.

do u really want k03's again?? haha
sodiy then for $1200 + other hardware.
K04's you can get for $2000. inlets and harware for another 600. but then of course you'll need upgraded fueling to get the real power from them... ~1500- 2000. then of course you'll have to upgrade the clutch, IC's, exhaust, mounts, gaskets/seals, lol.. but that's just our addiction
