It's been mentioned on a thread that I posted a while back on another topic that I should get custom tuning. How does one do this? Do I need to purchase a device to program the tuning in the car? Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

if you can figure out how to tune the motronic on our cars, you should start your own buisness doing that! its perhaps the most complex ECU out there. By custom tuning, I am sure people were referring to going with a tune from VAST, JHM, EPL, or Marc. They will tune your ECU to your specific needs/wants (within the limits of the vehicle of course) versus someone like MTM, APR, or GIAC who just make one single tune (ie: all 93 oct APR chips are set to create the same performance gains.) With a tuner like the fore mentioned, they can detune for a smoother profile, erase some things (ie EGTs), or even push the limit further if you are in a big turbo setup.

So i would recommend that you contact one of those tuners and tell them what you are looking for, and see if you can do it. It will cost you, but you may be happier with that then a off the shelf chip.

 

Are there some pre-made tuning profiles that I could purchase from them too? How do I get them in my car?

 

I know that marc offers a set up with injectors, maf and a ecu tune...but you need the k04 turbos as well...now he sold me an APR ecu, he could probably hook you up with something like that...then the more unstock you go he can adjust and find something better to fit your needs...

He can set you up with a custom K03 file/K04 "stage 3" file or an e85 tune.

 

yes...JHM, marc, and VAST all have stuff. just contact them. you will need to send out your ecu and they will tune then send it back

 

A custom tune for k03's?? i wonder what all that entails, and what is the horsepower difference with that or say a GIAC or APR tune?? does it involve new fueling as well? and as difficult as it may be to tune an audi ecu...my volvo S80 ecu was difficult to do anything with...

 

K03 tune does not involve any new fueling... you would see some nominal gains over a base chip.
