Default Damn! K04 Turbolady singing, so back to stock boost now!

WTF? Well, at least it sounds like the turbolady...

It's only doing it @ WOT and high rpms.

Only 15k on them, they were brand new when I got them.

Oil feeds were new also. What gives?

I don't feel like pulling the motor (for the 3rd time) right now so I'm letting it run at stock boost until I get some free time.

I guess I'll get some CHRAs when I finally decide to pull it.

Oh, and before anyone asks;
No, I don't want to sell or trade the turbos. So don't bother asking

Shitty luck man. Are you good about warm-up and cooldown before/after getting into boost? Don't very often see K04s go unless they're just run into the ground.

I'm good about warm-up & cool-down. I try to keep the boost gauge in the zero to vacuum zone when it's cold.

I don't remember the oil temp gauge ever going past 3/8 mark and I always give it at least 15-60 sec depending on how I was driving it. So cool-downs shouldn't be an issue.

I don't drive it everyday and most of the miles on the the turbos are highway from taking long trips in it.

I think I may sell the car after I fix it.

I love the damn thing, but I'm so sick of working on it.

This isn't my car in the video but this is what it sounds like, just a little quieter.

sometimes they can get loud. especially in cold weather. also, check to see if you have either a boost leak or an exhaust leak. both of those will make them sound louder. I hope they are ok!

I wish that were the case, brotha.

But this sound is all to familiar.

I'm almost positive that it's the turbine wheel rubbing the housing.

You can't hear that dentist drill noise in the vid @ high RPMs?

I wouldnt write the K04's off just yet. I have repaired quite a few tensioner and idler pullys that create a similar noise when going bad. Sure, a bad pully wont rival the pitch of a really bad turbo, but if your hearing a low groan or hum (especially under load) you could have a pully going bad.

a way to to rule out the pulley problem would be to put it in 6th and do about 40 and put the throttle to the floor and see if the varies with rpm.
