A guy a few doors down from me just blew his turbo in his '01 1.8T-225hp TT. Basically, he he spent all his money on the car and can't afford to upgrade the turbo. I know you can rebuild K03s, but is there anything you can do to improve reliablity of them in the rebuild? He is running APR software, but everything else is stock.

He has been bugging me a few days about this now, and I really feel bad for him. He really cant afford to have turbo replaced, much less upgrade to a K04, so he got a rebuild kit from MichiganTurbo. Any tips on improving reliablity of a K03 build wise? I mean his car only has 45k on it, and should not be blowing a turbo. K03s are rediculous!

 

i think (but am not sure) you can build them too rs4 specs...i think devil s4 has k03/k04 hybrids...but not sure on reliability

 

On the TT guys behalf he could re-build the turbo and put k04 internals inside it. The k03 and the k04 have the exact same housing just different compressor wheels.

 

would that improve the reliablity to that of a k04?? so im assuming its the internals that fail then? there arent any reliability issues with the k03/k04 hybrid?

 

tell him to get a different software

 

I'm almost positive that the 225 already have a K04 so just tell him that. Good news I think.
