ECON switch produces very hot air coming out of the vents
I have a 2004 Audi S4 Cab.
The weather has cooled off so I decided to turn off the A/C. Since I would still like air blowing out of the vents I used
the ECON switch rather than the OFF switch.
I have bought 5 Robinair AC Instant read Digital Fahrenheit/Celsius stick thermometers for measurements. I insert the thermometer into the vent about half way and set it for Fahrenheit.
With 82 degree outside temp, I measured the air coming out of the vents with a stick thermometer at 102 degrees. Additionally, I get air coming out on the floor even if I have turned on the middle Air Distribution switch.
The manual says, using the ECON switch, heating and ventilation are automatically controlled but I think 102 degrees is too hot.
I have tried leaving the A/C on and setting the temperature but I noticed a change in air temp going from being cold at 80 degrees and jumping to hot at 81 degrees.
Possibly related, in a previous posting, "1 AC Vent Blows Warmer and fluctuates in temp more freq... - 8/25/2004 11:54:05 AM" I stated that 1 vent blows warmer A/C air than the others with A/C on and across the board, all vents blow warmer than 2 other cars I tested. This problem still exists. I am still trying to get Audi to physically look under the dash, rather than depend 100% on a diagnostics program.
Maybe, the heater is stuck always on?
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Doug
