ECS Coilovers
Hey all,
I have a 2001 S4 with a set of MTM springs that have lowered my ride height around 1.5in. Having the low profile is nice, but it causes the car to chew through the inside toe of my tires in 10-12k miles. As you can imagine, replacing 4 tires every 10-12k miles is getting pretty expensive. The Audi shop that I have worked with in the past told me they can't quite align it to the stock recommendation and as a result, the tires are aligned to slightly sit on the inside toe, causing abnormal wear.
After talking to the mechanic, he is confident that the coilover kit will give them enough space to align the car to te factory specs. My question for you all is, are the spring/shock assemblies a pain in the **** to remove and reinstall? Do I need any special tools? I have done quite a bit of mechanic work in the past, but not much on newer vehicles like my S4. I have the Bentley manual and it seems like it tends to overcomplicate some things. It seems like the spring assembly should be fairly straight forward to remove and disassemble. Let me know what you think, thanks in advance.
I forgot to mention, I am getting the coilover kit from ECS. I already have a set of Bilstein shocks on the car right now, plus the MTM springs. The guy from ECS said their coilover kit should work fine with my Bilsteins/MTMs. I'd rather not throw out $1200+ dollars for a full coilover kit when I already have a new set of shocks and a stiffer set of lowering springs. The kit from ECS is only like $300 for all four corners.
