Default Egt's not working? Try this!!!!

Hello all, I'm new here but give me a chance with this one. I had been having problems with my egt sensors open/short to positive. Egt's were replaced 12,000 miles ago. Vagcom says a constant 1035 c. Even when you unplug them. So I traced all the wires to ecu and all were good. So I hooked them back up with the car running and vagcom within sight. Magically one would read 945 c! Move it back 1045 c! Move it forword 945 c! So I tried to duplicate it on the other side. Same result. Didn't make sense wasn't the wires. So I tried to squeeze the egt box in my hand and it would work! Now this might be the most redneck thing you do to your car but at least try it. Put a small c clamp on the egt box with the vagcom in sight and slowly increase pressure until they work. Saves $500! Not pretty and I'm not sure how long it will work. cid:291617B1-636D-482D-A663-0A1BF96E28E6/DSC_0001.jpg

Can you pls post some pictures on how it was done. I don't get what you mean when you said moving back and forward. Did you remove the egt's from where it was screwed and then you clamped it together? Did you clamp them separate? I apologize for asking too many questions, my imagination is just not working well.

I unscrewed the one egt that was bad. And pulled it up and out of the way as much as possible. Than with a very small clamp, 1" I think I slowly put pressure on the middle of the front of the egt. But yes I will try to post pics

I don't have an authentic rosstech vagcom cable, can I do it with just a cheap vagcom cable? Also, did you screw back the egt box or you just left it hanging. Did you put one clamp in both sensors or one on each?

All u need is to see what temp the egt is at. 935 is what u want. If one or both reads over that clamp it until it reads 935-945. I just left my egt up and out of the way with a cable tie. Clear codes when you get it done

I don't have an authentic vagcom cable, what I do have is a portable vagcom obd2 device which can reset codes. It doesn't read egt temp but it will read egt fault codes. Mine reads open or short to plus for both bank 1 and 2. So I'm gonna try doing it blind and reset the codes and see if it will come back. What happens if I over tighten the clamp, will it go back to a high reading?

I have alot of pressure on mine. I actually had both go bad so I piggy backed them at the ecu so it sees only one egt signal. That way I only had to clamp the one. I would post pics but there on my iPhone and I have tried for 8 hours to post them and can't do it. I can replace the motor in my car but when it comes to computers forget it. I could email them to you if I had your email. Anyway try a couple of turns on each egt and check the codes. I have mine squished down to a 3/8" or less. Had to tighten it down over time
