engine light and trouble gettin in gear
What's up...listen, I'm pissed, sellin my car in two days and all of a sudden my check engine light comes on at startup tonight after it was fine all day. So I start up and it comes on and stays on...I decide to just try to get home...at my first stop light, I put it in nuetral...then to first but it won't go....won't go into any gears...so I turn the car off and on...goes into gear. I pulled into a gas station and sat there for 15 minutes tryin to get the car into gear again. It goes into gear fine when its off, but not when its on. Eventually the car shifted fine, and I got home with no probs...it actually shifted smoother than ever...engine light is still on....
anyone know the deal...sorry, I tried searching for this specific problem but didn't find anything valuable.
PS. I just had a 75k mile check up and oil change....there were no fault codes...mechanic said the car was perfect...maybe they messed somethin up with the diagnostics?

weird, sounds like possibly a clutch issue i had on a previous car, or even potentially synchros. but the intermittent nature of it combined with the MIL throws everything off. i'd be very interested to know what the real issue is. wish i could provide some insight, but im idea-less at the moment. nss or clutch switch???
^^you know, that the first thing I thought of....these things always happen when you're tryin to sell. I'm going to call my guy today, probably have it towed and hopefully find out its nothing $$$$ considering I'm selling the car cause I lost my job and I'm broke. I'll let ya'll know what happened, since it is quite a mystery...
ok..coolant sensor was fixed and light turned off...as for the shifting problems...well...all new clutch system. clutch, cylinder, plates, etc...$1600 with service. this all happens on the day I was picking up a check from the new owner...awesome...now I'm dead broke, unemployed and I don't think the dude wants the car anymore...even though it will have a brand new clutch...76k miles...
Yeah i had a very similar thing happen at the start of the year, i had a bit of an old bomb that i sold and would always start no matter what
Then after i got it ready in the driveway earlier in the day for the new owner, i thought i should put the battery charger on it just to make sure it would start nice and 'crisply' (car had bean sitting round for a wile) then the owner turns up a 10pm and then the car wouldnt start?
2nd time round in just got it started and thought F**k man, it has never not started on me b4!
Hay good luck bro i dont envy u

I had this problem 6 months ago on my A4S. I was on the highway and tried to accelerate and it turned out it was in Drive but responded as if it was in neutral. I put it in neutral and back to drive and nothing until finally it kicked in. This happened to me about 5 times. Extremely dangerous. I took it to the Audi service center. They connected it to a computer and basically they ended up changing the whole gear box. 5 months later it happened again. This time they changed some oil ducts that connect to the gear box. If the engine light turns on take it to the audi service center quickly. Especially if you have a warranty.
I had the same problem about 2 weeks ago, I took it to audi and it was my master slave cylinder? a $500 fix.
But now it drive 10 times better with the new one, and it make my car feel like I have a new clutch!!!
