Evo 8 MR
331 whp is waaaaay more then stock for an EVO BTW....not familiar with your mods - but obviously they work! I don't dispute that a slightly modded EVO might be quicker then a slightly modded S4 - however pure hp numbers are not the whole story - available & total torque are also factors that frequently give the S4 an edge against similar hp cars. 60-80 in 5th...well I suspect the EVO is geared a good bit lower then the S4 so not sure that a 5th to 5th comparo is necissarily valid for indications which car might be faster. I don't dispute what you are saying - for your cars - or that an EVO is wicked(er) in the twisties - they are really 2 different cars with overlapping certainly - but different purposes. Again - my stage 2 S4 was slightly faster then every EVO I ran against...and (in my Stage III - I didn't walk - but flew by an EVO the other day who was prodding me to race (we both had one passenger) and I was behind him accelerating from a stop at a light. Maybe he gave up...but it certainly wasn't until I was already flying past him...

It is running 22psi.You are correct on the torque thing, that's the saving grace of the S4. The gearing is about the same, slightly lower on the EVO. However, it's right in the EVO's torque curve.
Driving the EVO is nothing like the S4. You have to be in the proper gear, and know how to use the torque curve. If you are out of it, the EVO is unimpressive.
I have no doubt that a S3 car walks a lot of cars!
You would say the EVO is at S2, and my S4 is S1. But I'm working on it! I'm adding Autospeed downpipes, and a AWE exhaust in the next couple of weeks. Then I'll do some more test.
Of course, it's for the board, and not my personal pleasure.

I agree that people are going to try and race regardless of the class of cars they have. But to me, the 4-cylinder car producing 300+ hp is more of a technological achievement than the V8 Mustang!

They r such a better technological achievement than the veyron!!! I mean, that thing needs 16 cylinders and 4 turbos to only make 1001 hp!!!!!
speaking of veyron.. you guys see this..possibly successor to the veyron

The MC12 sounds like a very exclusive car... but I still doubt it would be a Veyron killer. I just read one statistic about the Veyron that still blows my mind :
That's just a ridiculous amount of acceleration!
It should also be noted that the Veyron's 0-200 mph time is quicker than the McLaren F1's 120-200 mph time.
yeah..i saw that stat on top gear.. that is crazy considering the f1 was the fastest production car before the veyron. however i wouldnt be so quick to dismiss this other car.. granted its about 250hp less..but its also over 1500 lbs lighter.. thats huge.
yea, there autobahn bred cars, so there are muuuuch better at higher speeds, and they have a fatter power band, which is the ideal thing, don't get me wrong, the evo is an absolute beast, but to me thats more of a weekend track car, than a daily ride
here i am, late as usual and prolly gonna kill this thread like my luck has. you talked about the smaller engines with turbo being more technologically advanced, audi did this with the 2.7 biturbo in the old RS4. what everyone has to consider is what is going to make the biggest profit for the company. audi could easily mate a supercharger to the 4.2 or even dream up some turbos for it to fit under the S4 hood to produce numbers in the 5 or 6 hundred hp range, but the cost of a "small family" car being in the 80k range (if said technology was reliable) is only marketable to an extremely small demographic. dependability is the key; they know that the older engines mated with turbos had the tendancy to be problematic, hence the n/a revolution. my v8 is all about acceleration from start to about 145-150. not the most neck breaking acceleration, but constant and impressive. geared for full range, not to 100mph or so. the only car around me that can out accelerate my station wagon past 80 is a corvette, a two seat, designed to be fast sports car. my not being "the fastestest ever" is acceptable since my three pasengers and a dog in the back can watch him walk, not run past us. and when it comes to corners, i have friends with bikes who think i have a death wish following them into corners but tell you the truth, i still haven't broken free in any cornering and some have been close to 90 degrees and i can take them at around 75-80. maybe they're just pansies and can lean a little more and less on the brakes.
