Default exhaust time

decision time,
i took my car to an exhaust shope the other day to see about a custom exh, they said they cand to turbo back but can do a 3inch where the y connectes in the back-to a magnaflow or dynomax muffler w a tip. its only like 250 or 300 installed, is this worth it or should i shell out the extra couple hundred and get a kit from someone? basically what im asking is the performance going to be that big of a difference between a custom exh from the y back or a actuall from the cat back. there is only a couple of inches between the cats and the spot where the normal cat back goes and where the custom y would go, thanks for the help

FYI a turbo back includes downpipes (bolt directly to the turbo, thus going from the turbo, back as opposed to from the cat back). You will see better performance wiht a cat back, its the same idea as adding downpipes, there will be less restriction overall throughout the system, leading ot better flow of air, increasing power. What I dont understand is why they cant make a turbo back OR legit cat back, since it is done at custom shops all the time.

i'm gonna agree with scarzie. if it's a custom exhaust, they should be able to make a cat back. personally, i think it's easiest to get a exhaust system from some company, ie awe. and then put it in yourself. it's not that difficult of a job. takes a couple hours at most. and you get the gratifying feeling of doing a job on your own car.
