I dont remember if it always made this high pitched winding noise. sorta like a photon cannon charging up (lol just imagine it). it only lasts for about 5 secs and then stops. it seems to be coming from between the firewall and engine, right in the middle. does anyone else get this noise? everything seems to run fine.

 

What you're hearing may be your starter.

 

might be ur starter.

 

its the ignition switch no going to run.
It'll kill your starter gear for sure.
Just happened to me.
After starting, back off the iginition key to the run position.
I need to replace mine now that I have a redneck Audi 100CSQ (only two teeth for the starter).

 

dang .... every weird **** you can think off, is possible with our cars.

 

canister purge valve/secondary air pump its quite normal, believe me you would soon know if it were the starter motor sticking
