So i went to the stealership because my car was misfiring and i dont have a vag-com. I went ahead and took the $140 ***-rape they call "diagnostics" and they told me that Power Output stage 2has failed, two ingnition coils (on 1 and 5) have failed and i need new spark plugs. They then proceeded to tack on a bunch of other things and at the end estimated $4,577.53 for essentially six spark plugs, two ignition coils, and a power output stage 2 (whatever that is).

All I really need to know is what the hell this "Power Output Stage 2" business is so i can replace it. If anybodies has some advice on that and installing sparkplugs and ignition coils I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you guys/gals.

u can get a free diagnostic/ vag com scanat like an auto zone, or im sure another shop, for free. can't help u with the other stuff.. hope someone else can chime in

 

Get input from a European specialist (Independent) Get a quote at least and see what it will save you to go there rather then the dealer..

 

Thats f(cking rediculous, its just a bad ICM (ignition control module, power output stage) whatever you want to call it. There should be two of them sitting on top of your air box. Each of these control 3 cylinders. You need a vag com to diagnose this however, what you do is swap the connectors to the other ICM and see if the miss-fires move to different cylinders. If they do you need an ICM. Those should costyou around $300 each. You should change your own spark plugs anyway, don't let the dealer rape you like that because they don't know how to work on cars.

 

seroius..... spark plugs and coils are a sinch to replace... even a noob could handle it... especially with getting away from that rediculous price
